The path to happiness and creating your own life begins with the questions: "Can I be happier? And if so, how do I get there?" Happiness is not simply a set of steps given to you by another person but a lifetime of inner coaching and self-work. Once developed, coaching yourself is a vital life skill that brings enormous changes to your career, romance, friendships, and finances. You cannot borrow it from others, but you can follow the Happy Warrior guidance to develop it yourself.
Be Your Own Coach
Be your own self-coach and achieve self-empowerment by making a conscious decision and effort to evaluate your actions. In the next few sections, we'll discuss three specific ways to improve your life, starting with building confidence, clarity, and compassion. We explore other ways to become more self-empowered throughout the Happiness PDF series. By guiding your thoughts and actions in a structured way, you will increase your focus, overcome obstacles, and take advantage of opportunities that previously would have slipped past your awareness.
Confidence
Confident people are happy people. When you're confident, you trust your ability to accomplish things; you know what you want out of life, and you go for it without hesitation. Confident individuals don't hesitate or second guess themselves because they believe they can handle whatever comes their way. The key to being confident is coaching yourself through difficult situations.
One way to build confidence is to identify areas where you feel insecure and lack confidence by asking yourself about your beliefs, identifying any self-defeating habits, and using affirmations while you self-coach.
Clarity
The journey toward self-empowerment begins with clearly seeing your situation. Your ability to make sense of your circumstances determines whether you accept them passively or proactively act on the situation. The clarity step helps you see your situation clearly so you can decide how best to proceed.
Your success depends largely upon the clarity of your thoughts, which leads us back to the importance of being your own self-coach. If you can learn to think more clearly — by challenging and changing your thinking patterns that block your progress — you can take control over what happens next in your life.
Compassion
Develop compassion for yourself by becoming aware of negative or destructive habits that prevent you from feeling good about yourself. For instance, if you're stressed out or tired because you didn't sleep well last night or haven't had enough rest for a while, instead of yelling at yourself or telling yourself how lazy and worthless you are, you could say, "I'm going to get some extra sleep tonight." You'll feel better just knowing you are trying to do something about your stress level and lack of energy.
The same idea holds true with anything. If you struggle with compassionate thinking toward yourself while trying to self-coach, hiring a life coach provides the benefit of an outside point of view. As part of their job description, life coaches provide feedback on your behavior and suggest strategies to help you succeed in the short and long term. Start with the Happy Warrior Self-Coaching PDF and take your happiness into your own hands.
