Mother's Day, A Day To Remember

Whether you are a mother, have a mother, or know a mother, today is the day we take a break from the chaos to share some love and gratitude for the special mothers that have helped shape our lives.

Being a mom is without a doubt the most difficult and rewarding job I have ever had. It’s the one job where I relied almost solely on instincts. No training, no warning, and not a clue about what would be coming my way. Thank goodness for that because if I had known then what I know now, I might have run away to a quiet little beach and sold strawberry-banana smoothies for the rest of my life.

I remember one of my defining moments as a mother. It was my youngest daughter Jenna’s 1st birthday. I had 30 screaming toddlers running through sprinklers and making art projects, AND our house was on the market. Clearly, the house was already a disaster, and just as Jenna picked up her birthday cake and smashed it over the top of her head, the doorbell rang. To my shock and horror, I answered the door to find a realtor wanting to show our home to a prospective buyer.

As I stood there holding Jenna, both of us covered in chocolate cake, I thought about my own remarkable mother and how she always seemed to be the master at balancing so many things at once. Even with two daughters, she was always able to keep the house so immaculate. I wished, in that moment, that I had paid a little more attention to how she did it all. I do the best I can, but the tidy gene is definitely not something I inherited.

The truth about Mother’s Day is that we are celebrating everything that encompasses being a mother, which is a whole lot more than cookies, play-dates, and coloring books. This Mother’s Day remember and recognize your mother and all the mothers in your life who are blindly making their way through this whole crazy journey, often feeling overwhelmed and not enough, but who keep showing up to mold their kids into the best people they can be.

Have a beautiful week!
