Rainbow in a Hailstorm
It’s been a whirlwind trip through Germany with my friend Sebestian, and it’s all completely outside of my comfort zone, which, as we know, can go either way. We can step outside of our cozy comfy place and start freaking out when things don’t go according to plan, or we can loosen our grip and see where the ride takes us. It all depends on how we look at it. For me, I’m on vacation in Germany, so the only way I’m choosing to look at anything is, “Yay me.”
After a couple of days in Berlin, Seb and I decided to take an overnight trip to Hamburg. We thought it would be a cool place to visit, but we were having all sorts of problems planning our trip. We were trying to book our train and hotel, but we would get to the “Purchase” page and it would freeze up or shut down and we would have to start all over again. After a few rounds of this, I could have chosen to be annoyed, but all I could think was, “I’m in Germany with one of my dearest friends, Yay me!”
We finally got it all worked out, and the next morning we embarked on our journey. e kept finding ourselves on the “wrong” train going the “wrong” direction because neither of us should be trusted with a map. After several train transfers, we found ourselves on a train platform in the middle of a hailstorm. (Are you freakin’ kidding me?!) As we made our way to the next train, we spotted a beautiful couple embracing, clearly in love, and one of them was holding a rainbow-colored pinwheel… such a bright spot on a dreary day. Despite the hail storm and all the train confusion, all I could think was, “Yay me.”
We see what we want to see. Sometimes it comes more naturally than others, but it’s always just a choice. Are we going to focus on the things in life that we don’t want, and allow ourselves to be frustrated and upset? Or are we going to focus on the beauty, and be grateful for it? What can I be Grateful for right now? Actually, it seems like there’s quite a bit. “Yay me!”
Wishing you a week full of pinwheels!
Jami
